The Department of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability of the Basque Government has launched a new call of the Hazitek program with an investment of 119 million euros to promote industrial research projects, experimental development and the creation of testing and experimentation infrastructures in the business sector. This initiative of non-refundable grants is part of the Euskadi 2030 Industry Plan, with the aim of strengthening competitiveness and innovation in the strategic sectors of the Basque economy.
The financing is distributed in three lines:
- 43 million euros for competitive projects.
- 50 million for strategic projects.
- 26 million euros for transformative projects.
Some of the characteristics of the three lines of financing are as follows:
The Competitive Research and Development Projects are aimed at industrial research and experimental development to create new products, processes or services, or substantially improve existing ones. These projects are aimed at companies seeking to increase their innovative capacity and improve their market position through applied technological solutions.
The Industrial Research and Experimental Development Projects of a strategic nature focus on the priority sectors defined in the Industry Plan - Euskadi 2030, encourage public-private collaboration and the participation of SMEs, as well as facilitating access to the European program Horizon Europe. Their objective is to generate useful knowledge to develop innovative products, processes and services, integrate strategic technologies and promote the creation of patents and startups. These projects have a tractor effect on the Basque economy and contribute to the diversification of the business fabric.
The Transformational Projects are unique and differential initiatives involving investments of more than 20 million euros, with a high economic and strategic impact on the Basque Country. They are aimed at creating quality employment, strengthening the business fabric and attracting investment. In addition, they promote transversal synergies between companies and agents from different sectors, with the support of Cluster Dynamizing Organizations (ODCs), and are developed in collaboration with the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network (RVCTI). These projects include the acquisition of testing and experimentation infrastructures and seek to generate innovative solutions, new patents and science and technology-based companies.
The call is open until February 27, 2026 and is aimed at Basque companies, both individually and in groups or business associations, that are committed to innovation and the generation of knowledge applied to the market.
