CDTI launches Missions 2025 call for strategic R&D projects

The CDTI has published the call for Science and Innovation Missions 2025, with an initial budget of 60 million euros, which can be increased up to an additional 80 million euros. The aim of this initiative is to finance cooperative R&D projects led by companies, which propose
relevant technological solutions to strategic challenges of great social and economic impact.

The projects must be aligned with one of the seven priority thematic missions: technological solutions to reduce hospital stays and care pressure, responsible artificial intelligence, sustainable mobility, secure and interconnected industry, territorial planning in the face of climate risks, strategic autonomy in raw materials and strategic autonomy in security and defense. The latter will have a minimum reserve of 15 million euros in the budget to finance these types of projects.

The call is part of the State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research 2024-2027 and the Transfer and Collaboration Program. Its purpose is to promote public-private collaboration and strengthen the technological and innovative base of Spanish companies.

Some of the most relevant requirements to be met are as follows
projects:

  • Eligible budget: between 3.5 million euros minimum and 15 million euros maximum. The minimum eligible budget per company will be 175,000 euros.
  • Duration: 3 or 4 years, starting January 1, 2026.
  • Minimum participation of three companies (maximum six), including at least one SME. 
  • Mandatory subcontracting of 15% to recognized research organizations. 
  • At least 40% of the budget must be allocated to industrial research activities.

Grants will be awarded in the form of subsidies, with maximum intensities of between 25% and 80%, depending on the size of the company, the type of activity to be financed and whether the condition of effective collaboration is met. Each beneficiary will receive at least 40% of its eligible budget.

The submission period for this call for proposals opens on May 29 and ends on July 1, 2025 at 12:00 noon, Spanish peninsular time.
