TOWER CRANE: SAFETY IN 21 STEPS

«Safety, respect for European regulations and fair competition are constitutive elements for our Association and should be for any operator who wants to operate in the national and European Union market,» said the president of ANMOPYC, Rafael Simon, on the occasion of the publication in Spanish of the brochure How do I know if a tower crane is safe?

The document, originally drafted by the European federation CECE, which ANMOPYC has been a member since 1988, provides user companies, customs and supervisory authorities with a tool that lists the strategic points to check to ensure that a tower crane complies with the EN14439 standard, This ensures compliance with health and safety standards for these machines under the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC), which contains the EU rules governing health and safety in the machine manufacturing process, so that all machinery destined for these markets must be manufactured in accordance with this Directive.

In fact, all machine manufacturers must perform a risk analysis and assume responsibility, unless there is a harmonized standard. In this case, they can manufacture the machine in accordance with this standard and benefit from the presumption of conformity. The harmonized standard that guarantees compliance with health and safety standards for tower cranes is EN 14439.

The publication is divided into three sections (mechanical, electronic and documentation) and lists 21 strategic control points specifically mentioned or cited in EN 14439 that you can check to determine whether a tower crane has been built in accordance with the harmonized standard.
