Major shipping companies are seeking alternative routes to the Red Sea
The purpose is to ensure the safety and security of their employees
Shipping companies such as MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co. SA, Compagnie Maritime d'Affrètement et Compagnie Générale Maritime (CMA-CGM), and Maersk are taking action in response to attacks on their ships by the Houthi ethnic group from Yemen.
MSC and Maersk have experienced direct attacks on their vessels, resulting in significant material damage.
In the case of CMA-CGM, they have decided to redirect all their container ships that were transiting through the area as a preventive measure, instructing them to change their course to safer zones until further instructions are received.
The use of alternative routes that bypass the Suez Canal, either eastward or westward, until normalcy is restored will inevitably impact the duration of the journeys, extending them by several days.
