Construction reduces CO2 emissions for the first time since 2020

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC) have released the annual report on the building and construction industry. The study concludes that, for the first time since 2020, emissions from construction have stopped growing. It also underscores the urgency of harmonizing building codes, expanding the use of low-carbon materials, increasing equitable access to green finance and incentivizing circular construction.

The report challenges major carbon emitting countries to adopt zero carbon building energy codes by 2028 and highlights training programs as essential to fill skills gaps in the sector.

The State of the World's Buildings and Construction 2024/2025 Report highlights the progress that has been made on relevant global climate targets and calls for greater ambition on six challenges, including building energy codes, renewable energy and financing.
