The number of contracts registered by companies in the construction sector in February was 79,881, an increase of 6.4% over the previous month and a positive year-on-year variation of 1.1%, according to data from the State Public Employment Service (Servicio Público de Empleo Estatal (Sepe) collected by the Barometers of the Construction Industry Observatory.
Compared to the previous year, the number of accumulated contracts in the sector has not undergone a great variation, barely -0.1%.
By activity, hiring increased only in Specialized construction activities (up 0.3%), while it remained unchanged in Building construction and decreased in Civil engineering (-4.7%).
Within the fifteen occupations that recorded the most contracts, two occupations specific to the sector stand out for their growth over the previous year: ‘Other structural construction workers not classified under other headings’, with 6.5%, and ‘Metal structure erectors’, with 4.9%.
On the other hand, ‘Bricklayer’ accounted for the highest percentage weight of new hires, reaching 27.8%; nevertheless, they recorded a reduction compared to the previous year of -1.4%.
