On May 2, Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/1208 of the Commission amending Directive 2000/14/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards the air-borne noise measurement methods to be used for determining the sound power levels of outdoor equipment was published in the Official Journal of the EU. A corrigendum was subsequently published.
Manufacturers of machinery that falls within the scope of both Directive 2006/42/EC (machinery) and Directive 2000/14/EC (noise emissions) are obliged to measure the noise emissions of such machinery in accordance with the methods laid down in Directive 2000/14/EC.
The noise measurement methods laid down in Annex III to Directive 2000/14/EC have not been updated since their adoption. This Delegated Regulation adapts these methods to technical progress and advances in European standardization.
This Regulation entered into force on May 22 and shall apply from May 22, 2025, in order to give economic operators sufficient time to adapt to the new requirements.
In order to avoid unnecessary administrative burdens and their associated costs for economic operators, a transitional period is established until May 22, 2028, during which outdoor machines already placed on the market that comply with Annex III to Directive 2000/14/EC may continue to be marketed.
